“Phil Odle Day,” February 18, 1968, was only a small indication of the admiration this football star had earned from Cougar fans. During his 1965-67 stay at BYU, Phil made All-Conference every year and was named WAC Lineman of the Year as a sophomore.

He caught 77 passes in 1967 for a new WAC record, and also broke the WAC scoring record with 25 touchdowns. He was named to the Dell Sports All-American first team, and received the Dale Rex Memorial Award for his contribution to amateur athletics in Utah.

Phil was co-captain of the BYU team in 1967, and was the number two player in college history in passes caught (183 in three years). After his final year of college play, he was invited to play in every post-season collegiate game. He elected to participate in the East-West Shrine Game, Hula Bowl, and Coach’s All-American Game.
