Gentle giant Nick "The Bear" Eyre was BYU football's first consensus All-America lineman.

The offensive tackle from Las Vegas, Nevada, finished third in the Outland Trophy voting and was selected to the Kodak-Coaches and the Football Writers Association All-America teams in 1980.

Nick's accomplishments while at BYU include the following: He was a four-year letterman, a three-year starter for 24 consecutive games, a two-time All-Western Athletic Conference performer, and a team captain.

Because of these accomplishments, Nick was chosen to play in the East-West Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl. He was also selected to the BYU Football "All-Decade Team", the WAC 25-Year Anniversary squad, and Street and Smith's 50-Year All-Rockies team.

Nick helped lead the Cougars to four WAC titles, three Holiday Bowl appearances, and a 41-8 record.

He played four years of professional football in the National Football League (Houston Oilers) and the U.S. Football League (Arizona Wranglers). That career was cut short when it was discovered that Nick had cancer, which is now in remission.
